Also I add sharp cheddar cheese and green onions to the batter. It makes a great appetizer snack and I serve it with my favourite pepper jelly recipe.

Yep! All-purpose is correct!

In reply to Rox.

I added dried cranberries and walnuts, and some cinnamon….wow….perfect fruit bread and wasn’t too sweet. Today I am going to try making it into gingerbread. I love this basic recipe

In reply to Dianne Barnett.

I agree with you Dianne. Don’t use IPA’s. Avoid hoppy beers. We enjoy lagers, pilsners, amber ales, and stout beer. My sister only uses Bud beer, she says it comes out perfect every time.

Love lots of your recipes and they usually pretty simple. Don’t have lots of hard to fine spices or seasonings. They turn out really good and I like the comments on this you can add or change in the recipe.

WARNING! Do not use IPA! It makes a weirdly bitter, bad-tasting bread. It looks like it would be great if made with standard, watered down, tasteless American beer.

My daughter recently came up with this most delicious variation!
Add ins:
1 bottle or can of Hard d Cidet instead of beer
1/3 c shredded sharp cheddar
3/4c diced apple. Let me Honey Crisp
1Tbs finely chopped fresh Rosemary!

This is the best beer bread I’ve ever had! My son in-law ate almost the entire loaf! He is in the Army and is leaving on a deployment, this bread was his first request to have before he leaves!

This was amazing! My husband said it was addicting after a few bites. I did cut down the salt by half because with pouring on salted butter I was worried it might be too salty. It turned out great and was a good balance of sweet with a buttery, salty crust. I also used a 4×8 cast iron loaf pan so the loaf would have a higher profile. For the beer, I used Coors Golden.
